Tired of itching? Over the counter scabies treatments can help

I suffered from scabies when I was pregnant. My struggle and fight with it ended a month later I delivered her. Throughout my period, I started learning about it and finally came up with some over the counter scabies treatments. But honestly, I just found them relaxing.

What is scabies?

Scabies is a human skin disease. It is highly contagious and spreads skin to skin from an infected person to another. Itching, rash, sore, and thick crusts on the skin signify scabies, which is caused by a tiny burrowing mite called Sarcoptes scabiei var. Scabies mite burrows in the upper layer of the skin where it lives and lays egg. It cannot live/survive more than 48-72 hours without human skin. Scabies puts an affected person in inconvenience and trouble but it is not life-threatening.

Besides allopathic curettage, over the counter scabies treatments are also available. If an individual is suffering from the aforesaid disease, all those who have close contact with the affected one needs to be treated simultaneously otherwise none of them will be recovered. My husband suffered with me and so his family. So if you know someone is itching, keep yourself aside!

Although people like me exercise some scabies treatments, I found no medical evidence for their effectiveness of such home remedies. When I started, I believed that such traditional treatments cannot cause any serious side effects. But if someone faces the worst side of the disease, it is high-time to take an action.

**Note that if the irritation is out of control, it is better to consult an experienced dermatologist to cure the right way by the approved medicine.

Over the counter scabies treatments

Having myself suffered from itching due to scabies, i have used some of the natural home remedies for scabies;

Tea tree oil

over the counter scabies treatment

Tea tree oil helps a scabies patient to get some relief in itching and rash on the skin. It has shown better results in the lab and among the affected people with very small evidence. If you feel any allergic, do not continue. The tea tree oil does not destroy the eggs that are buried deep in the skin until be showered by a squirt bottle.

Aloe vera

There are no side effects of using Aloe Vera on the skin. Small studies reveal that Aloe Vera is effective in treating scabies.

** Aloe vera is also an effective ingredient to be used as a home remedy for acne.

Neem

Azadirachta Indica (neem) has analgesic, Antibacterial Sand anti-inflammatory properties. Some studies suggest that it is effective in treating scabies. It kills the mites. A test on dogs reveals positive results on some dogs but not completely. More studies to test the effectiveness of humans needed.

Clove oil

Clove oil is suitable for the curing of scabies and is therefore known as the top-rated natural remedies for scabies. The result is based on a single study on a group of rabbits and pigs which shows a better result than the other oils. Hence, there is a need for more studies to check the effectiveness to kill the mites on human skin.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper is not very effective but some people believe that it cures scabies. There is again a controversy according to a single study. A compound found in cayenne pepper desensitized the skin when applied directly, this can alleviate some pain and itchiness associated with scabies.

Turmeric

There is very little evidence about the effectiveness of turmeric in treatment for scabies. Some people think that it is effective in alleviating the scabies symptoms, but this will not stop or cure the infestation.

Zinc

Zinc is not a direct treatment for scabies. It helps fight off secondary infections which may result from open skin wounds.

Borax

Borax or sodium borate is also controversial as it is used for household products’ cleaning and laundry washes. Some people think it can help with scabies others think safe for humans.

Bleach

It is harmful to humans and always diluted and treated with great care. It should not come into contact with the skin itself.

Vacuuming

Vacuuming the house can not cure the infestation that is affecting an individual. Cleaning up the mites that could be in floor coverings help to prevent scabies from spreading to other people.

Apple Cider Vinegar

There is no authentic proof that it is effective in treating the scabies or not.

Washing clothes in hot water

It is not a direct treatment for scabies. An affected person should wash clothes, bedding, and other fabrics that are in contact with skin. Washing at 50 degree Celsius helps to kill or remove mites hiding in clothes or fabrics and helps to prevent spreading to others.
