In this article, I’ll be reviewing the Nykaa skinrx 10% Vitamin C Serum with 5% Niacinamide.
This product claims to brighten the skin by 30% in 30 days. I have been using this product for 30 days, and I’ll let you know my thoughts on it. As always, let’s review the product under the following headings.
What does it have?
This serum contains 10% Vitamin C. It contains 3-0 ethyl ascorbic acid. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, it reduces free radical formation, It reduces collagen breakdown, it improves fine lines and wrinkles also protects the skin from UV damage. It also lightens dark spots, so vitamin C is a good ingredient to include in your skincare routine. There are multiple benefits of vitamin C that one can notice!
It also contains niacinamide. Niacinamide is a vitamin B3, has anti-inflammatory properties, helps in reducing acne, also reduces oil secretion from the skin. It reduces dark spots and also causes increase in ceramide synthesis and improves skin barrier.
It also contains hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant so it attracts water and it plumps up the skin, making the skin smoother and glowing . It also smoothens out the appearance of fine lines. It can be ferulic acid. Ferulic acid is a good ingredient to include a vitamin C serum because ferulic acid helps in reducing the pH of the serum and makes the vitamin C more stable. It also has additional photo-protective effect, so it protects the skin from UV damage.
It also contains sikka extract or Centella Asiatica. Centella Asiatica has antibacterial and anti- inflammatory properties. It helps in soothing the skin, reducing redness, and also reduces the signs of aging. This has been used in traditional Asian medicine for a long time. It is a hope that is used to soothe the skin, calm the redness down, and it also helps in repairing skin barrier.
What does it do?
The serum helps in improving the overall skin appearance. It makes the skin of your brighter and more glowing. It improves skin tone, dark spots, appearance of fine lines, and also reduces premature aging. The serum also protects your skin from UV radiation induced damage.
How does it feel?
It’s very watery, non-sticky, not oily. It spreads easily. And you can use it in the summer as well. It is a very easy product to layer, you can just apply it as the first layer on the cleansed face and go on top with a moisturizer and sunscreen.
How to use it?
You can use it in your AM or PM routine. I prefer to use it in the morning on a freshly cleansed face. Apply the serum and you can follow this up with a moisturizer and sunscreen. You can also pair this with the Nykaa skinrx day and night cream.
Who will it suit?
It will suit you If you are new in the skincare journey. This product has been formulated keeping novices in mind. So if you are somebody who’s just starting out and want to start Vitamin C serum then this product will work for you because it has soothing ingredients like centella asiatica, niacinamide. It reduces the irritation potential of vitamin C and it is very beginner friendly. So if you are somebody who is looking to include vitamin C in your routine, or you have used vitamin C in the past and felt that it did not suit you, and this might work for you.
Who should avoid it?
If you have very red, sensitive, irritated skin. If you have rosacea. If you have active acne then you want to avoid the serum. Also don’t use a vitamin C serum if you’re using a salicylic acid or an AHA serum along with it. You want to use Vitamin C Serum as a standalone along with a moisturizer and a sunscreen, do not use Vitamin C along with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as this can break the vitamin C down and reduce its efficacy.
What Precautions to take?
it is a well-tolerated serum so no precautions as such. But remember that whenever you’re using a vitamin C serum, you always want to use a sunscreen and practice strict sun protection in order to reap the full benefits of vitamin C. After 30 days of use, today I see slight reduction in my dark spots and overall skin tone looks more easy. I cannot put an exact percentage, but there is definitely a reduction in the number of dark spots and also the intensity of dark spots. I only use it once in a day and get used laser down two or three times in a month. But I have been continuing for about three to four months now.
