Ingredients in skincare products that cause headache
You may be hearing everytime reading an article that your skin is the most important organ in the body. This is because it performs a multitude of functions ranging from protecting the essential organs, muscles, and bones, to nerves and ligaments. This is why, it is very important to gain understanding about the product and be sure of what is being applied.
Below is a dozen of ingredients you should always have in mind;
Throughout the years since my teenage ended and until I reached 29, I have been in search of skincare products that feeds my skin well. Obviously I spent a lot of time finding ingredients that are functional and would support my skin well.
I would consider it one of the dangerous ingredients in the skincare products. Upon conducting research I found it in almost every personal care products, mainly in the antiperspirant deodorants. This toxic metal may have oestrogen-like effect that may disrupt the healthy functioning of the skin.
DMDM HYDANTOIN & UREA (Imidazolidinyl)
This ingredient can be referred to as preservatives which releses formaldehyde, casuing pain in joints, insomnia, headaches, and skin allergies. This ingredient today is a part of various cosmetic products including hair care, skincare, and detergents.
Mineral oil is an incredibly harmful ingredient. It’s a petroleum by-product which covers the skin just like the plastic by clogging the pores. Being found in creams, lotions, ointments, and cosmetics, this harmful ingredient interferes with skin capability to help get rid of toxins.
Diethanolamine (DEA), Monoethanolamine (MEA), and Triethanolamine (TEA)
This ingredient basically is aclear, colorless, viscious liquid with ammonia-like odors and is mainly found in face washes, facial cleansers, and soaps. One can also find them in makeup products, hair products, sunscreens, and fragrances.

This ingredient is used as preservatives and may be likely to contribute in imbalancing hormones. So if you are buying fragrances or skincare products, be careful.
Polyethylene glycol (PEG)
The presence of this ingredient in the cleansers for dissolving oil and grease may reduce and extract all the natural skin oil. It also thicken the product so if you see a thicker cleanser, look for the presence of this ingredient and feel free to reject it.
It is a chemical that is consumed to enhance the level of flexibility and plastic strength. Such an ingredient is not even labeled on product and is mainly found in fragrances.
Siloxanes or methicone are two similar ingredients that are used in skincare products to soften, moisten, and smoothen the cosmetic items. This ingredient is harmful for the wildlife as well.
Propylene glycol and Butylene glycol
It’s a gaseous hydrocarbons, acting as a surfactant in the liquid state. This ingredient penetrates in the skin and can weaken the cellular structure. These ingredients are mainly consumed in making extracts from the herbs.
This synthetic antibacterial agent my disrupt thyroid function and can degrade it into the form of dioxin- a chemical that offers toxicities like cancer. It is a part of toothpaste, soaps, shaving creams, mouthwashes, etc.
SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate)
It’s a form of detergent that makes the product lather, bubble, and foam. It is 90% a part of personal care products.
The presence of artificial fragrances in the cosmetic and skincare products is alarming if you are about to purchase it. These are produced out of multiple ingredients that are not listed on the label so you may not be able to explore what it is. These are also present in air fresheners, scented trash bags, candles, etc.
